Stance

In reality, stances are not fixed and immobile; performed in a series of movements, they are fleeting.

Egami Shigeru, The Heart of Karate-dō

Tachi denotes the configuration of the lower body; tachi gata 立ち形 are forms of stances. Kamae 構え(posture) refers to the configuration of the entire body.

Ohgami Shingo (Wadō ryū) schematizes tachi kata as natural stances, even stances and uneven stances.
