Elbow and Forearm Snap in Uchi

  1. Snap the forearm out smoothly and rapidly, using the elbow as the center of movement. Relax the elbow. If the slightest elbow tension remains, the arm will act like a mechanical toy that needs oiling, and the technique will be ineffective.

  2. Relax the shoulder and tighten the striking fist or open hand. If the shoulder is tense, the arm may swing out without any snap.

  3. Straighten the elbow fully as the hand is snapped outward. The more the arm is stretched at the moment of impact, the greater the effect.

  4. Snap the hand outward with maximum speed. The strike must be fast.

  5. When the arm extends to its maximum, immediately relax the abducting muscles. At that point, adductors of the arm will automatically act to return it to its original position. This sudden withdrawal completes the snap. For an effective snap, learn how the muscles work to extend and withdraw the arm.
